The bridegroom’s parents examined the bride with a critical eye and invited her to the table. The questions poured out one by one. Linda tried to answer them all, but she was so nervous that she sometimes stuttered and got lost and confused. This aroused a lot of unfounded suspicion in the stylish mother and the pompous father. Nick nixed his parents in every way he could, but there was no stopping them.
And then there he was! Zeus. A small creature with an unkind look. It was more difficult to please him than his parents. This menacing kid looked at everyone with such a fierce hatred, that no doubt that if not chewed up, then badly. With the mini-toy terrier is not fun, if you do not like it.
Thunderstorm on thin paws had already begun to approach Linda, but then stopped and sniffed. In a minute she was climbing on her hands, which had never happened before. The girl smelled of noodles and sausage and fish. And the mini monster dissolved into the scents on her suit. How tired he was of breathing his mistress’ pungent perfume as she cradled him and carried him in her arms. How good his guest smelled. And Zeus pressed his cheek against the girl’s chest in the very spot where Linda had affixed the brooch.
The groom’s parents were in mute shock and took a long time to come to their senses. Their dear Zeus, who even sometimes neglected them, suddenly climbed into the arms of a stranger and was not going to leave her. The dog didn’t care what anyone else thought. Zeus enjoyed Linda’s “perfume,” which consisted not of the annoying sandalwood with lily of the valley, rose, and patchouli, but of noodles, sausage, and fish.
The aggrieved owner tried to take the doggie away, but the doggy snarled and nearly bit off half her hand.
“Unexpectedly for us, but Zeus chose Linda and showed us that she could be trusted with our son,” said the father. My mother agreed with his opinion. She sincerely believed that her four-legged pet felt good and right people. Her son’s previous girlfriend had been bitten by him. Before her, there had been a person of indecent appearance in her mother’s eyes, and she, too, had taken a beating from the small but angry Zeus.
The mini dog did not recognize strangers, but for some reason he accepted this girl. Linda was silent as to why. She guessed everything at once. Nick’s parents’ excruciating questions stopped, so did the suspicious looks, and the family moved on to discussing the wedding.
This is not always the way that what seems like a catastrophe is a catastrophe. A problem in our eyes can play a positive role in life.
