– Mom, there’s a man in the crosswalk… And he… And he…” My son began confusedly, bursting into the apartment.
He did burst in, there was no other word for it. All disheveled, wild eyes, his jacket was torn. It was a horrible sight!
– What happened to you,” I asked in horror. – Are you all right?
– I’m fine. And, finally catching his breath, my son began a story…
He was getting off the bus at the underpass. It was late, like 10:00 at night.
Yeah, my kid rides the bus alone at this hour. He’s in martial arts. Training ends late. So today, he headed home from the bus stop as usual.
As he walked across the crosswalk, he heard a woman scream. Not even a scream, more like a squeak. The sound was coming from under the stairs (there is a niche down there, quite large). He rushed down there and saw some guy trying to rape a girl by gagging her with his hand.
My hero didn’t hesitate long and rushed the man. A fight ensued between them. But luckily for me, the bastard was weak, and my son quickly put him down. The girl seized the moment and took off.
My son did not know where the bastard had gone. He ran after the girl to see if she was all right. But she was long gone.
This was all in my son’s own words, and I didn’t really believe his story, suspecting that he was just trying to avoid punishment for his torn jacket.
But what was my surprise when, some time later, the very same girl came to us. It turned out that she was a local.
She’s a small settlement here, and when she recovered from the horror she had endured she began to look for my son. When she came she began to thank my son, crying. She even tried to give him money for saving her (she didn’t quite recover).
My son, of course, refused the money. I look at my son with very different eyes now. Just a month ago he was a real prankster and brawler to me, and now I am proud to tell everyone that my son is a real man.
Despite the fact that he is only 15 years old he risked his life and health to save this poor girl. A hero, there’s no other word for it! And that man was later identified and detained through a sketch.
